The bathroom is an essential room in a house, whether it is equipped with a shower, a bathtub, a washbasin or a toilet we always call it a bathroom. So why do we never talk about a shower room, is this a misnomer? We are going to answer that today.

To start with the law, it is indicated in the decree of March 1982 that a shower room is a room different from the kitchen which has a water supply. It is not specified that it must have a bath, a shower or a basin. And for a bathroom it has to be equipped with a bathtub or a shower.

Nowadays we don't really make the difference and those who want to make it will rather speak of a shower room for a room with a basin or even a shower and speak of a bathroom when the room is equipped with a bathtub.

The advantages and differences

Now that you know a little more about how to differentiate between a shower room and a bathroom, let's see how one or the other can be an advantage.

A bathroom, therefore a room composed of a bathtub and obviously a washbasin, furniture, etc... Is it a real advantage in a house because a bathtub brings a relaxing side and often participates in a cocooning atmosphere in the room. The bathroom is also going to be a must in a house with young parents as they will need to bathe their young children. Although a bathroom will often cost more to buy and will be less economical in terms of water consumption, it will be an asset for the sale and will bring you comfort in everyday life.

The shower room will also be an asset for small rooms and is the most used in our modern homes. We will generally find a bathroom, but then the second or in some houses the other rooms are often shower rooms since a bathtub is enough in a home. A shower room will have a lower price tag as a shower will cost less than a bath and less water consumption.

Making a choice

You want to redo your bathroom or you are building a new one but you can't decide whether or not to install a bathtub. Here are some tips on how to make your choice.

If you have young children or wish to have them in the future, we advise you to install a bathtub, it will be essential for your comfort. Then, if you have or wish to have several bathrooms or shower rooms, as mentioned before, choose to install only one bathtub, which will be sufficient. Then, plan a shower room with a single shower.

Next, you will have to choose the bathtub:

The built-in bathtub: A classic in our bathrooms, the built-in bathtub will need to be embedded as its name suggests in a previously created box. It will be solid and still very popular, we find many models with different sizes, materials and of course very different prices. Its great advantage is that it will suit any interior and will simply blend in with the universe you wish to give to your space.

The island bathtub: Our favourite bathtub at Vascoplan, as it brings a real aesthetic touch with timeless and chic lines. It makes a statement in a bathroom and will easily enhance it. For the material, there is no better choice than a solid surface bathtub which will be solid and very modern. However, there are a few disadvantages to this type of bath, as it is more difficult to get the water into the middle of the room. It is also necessary to foresee a shower in addition to an island bathtub, it is not obvious to shower in this type of bathtub.

The bath with door also known as the shower bath: The best option if you are short of space and want to take a bath at the weekend and enjoy a shower during the week. They will often be wider than standard baths to give you more comfort.

Finally, you will also need to choose the shower:

Shower enclosures: A shower enclosure is often the economical option, with a low purchase cost and generally taking up little space we find it in many homes. A shower enclosure will give you satisfaction whether in a bathroom or a shower room, it is practical to install and will be reliable over time. We recommend that you install a quality shower tray so that you don't run into problems with leaks over time.

The walk-in shower: The star of our bathrooms with its unparalleled elegance and practicality, it will delight everyone. With its floor at the same height as the room, it is suitable for people with reduced mobility. You will have the possibility of installing a recessed shower tray which will be easier to install, the solid surface shower trays with their many colours will blend in perfectly with your tiled floor or other floor for a very modern and aesthetic look. You then have the solution of a tiled floor, which will require a professional to lay it as it is not very easy to install, but it will have the advantage of being in continuity with the floor of your bathroom and therefore give a very homogeneous appearance.
